The Timeline

  1. The Consult

We start with a consultation and take detailed medical history and complete a nasal exam often including an endoscopic exam of the nose. We will discuss what you are unhappy about with regards to youre previous rhinoplasty, and investigate any breathing issues. We then take a set of 3D VECTRA photos as well as high definition 2D photos. Using the latest technology we are able to take precise measurements and analysis of your nose and provide morphing to show you what an expected outcome may look like.

  2. Surgery

Revision Rhinoplasty surgery can be quite similar to a surgical rhinoplasty although the treatment may take upwards of 4.5 hours as reconstruction is most likely required.

What is revision rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty surgery, also known as a revision nose job or secondary rhinoplasty, is a delicate procedure designed to correct or improve the results of a previous rhinoplasty. Experienced surgeons like Dr. Esmail understand the complexities involved in revision procedures, making it essential to choose a skilled facial plastic surgeon with extensive experience. Whether addressing breathing issues, nasal airway obstruction, or improving the appearance of the nose, a revision nose job procedure requires careful planning and surgical expertise. Revision surgeries are often performed to resolve complications from previous rhinoplasty surgeries or to enhance nasal function and facial harmony, helping patients achieve their goals.

What are reasons to get a revision rhinoplasty?

Patients may seek revision rhinoplasty, or secondary rhinoplasty, for several reasons, including:

  1. Dissatisfaction with the aesthetic outcome of the primary surgery, such as a crooked nose, asymmetry, or unnatural results that don't align with their facial features.
  2. Functional issues, like nasal airway obstruction or breathing problems, may also prompt revision.
  3. Complications from the initial rhinoplasty, such as excessive scarring, irregularities in the nasal bones, or improper healing, are other common reasons for a revision rhinoplasty.
  4. Some patients require cartilage grafts or implants to restore nasal structure or address changes over time.
An experienced revision rhinoplasty surgeon can evaluate these issues and create a personalized surgical plan to achieve the desired goals.

What is done during a revision nose job?

A revision nose job involves reshaping the nasal structure and addressing any functional issues that may have arisen from the initial rhinoplasty surgery. Techniques such as cartilage grafts, often from rib cartilage or septal cartilage, may be used to provide support and improve the nose’s appearance. Soft tissues and scar tissue from previous surgeries are carefully managed during the surgical procedure to ensure the best possible outcome. The nose bridge, nasal bones, and nasal septum may also be addressed to refine facial proportions and correct any crooked nose concerns.

How long do I have to wait after my first rhinoplasty to have revision rhinoplasty?

It is typically recommended to wait at least 12 months after your initial rhinoplasty procedure before undergoing a revision rhinoplasty. This allows the healing process to complete, reducing scar tissue and giving the nasal structure time to settle. During this time, the swelling and scarring from the primary rhinoplasty surgery will subside, providing a clearer view of the final outcome. A consultation with a Rhinoplasty Surgeon, such as Dr. Esmail, will help determine if you are a suitable candidate for revision rhinoplasty based on your recovery and the specific issues with the initial surgery.

Why is revision rhinoplasty more complex?

Revision rhinoplasties are far more complex than primary rhinoplasty procedures due to the presence of scar tissue, changes to the nasal bones, and the alterations made during the first surgery.

  1. Presence of scar tissue: Scar tissue from the initial surgery can complicate the revision nose job procedure, making it more difficult to achieve desired results.
  2. Changes to the nasal bones: Alterations made during the first surgery may have changed the structure of the nasal bones, requiring advanced surgical techniques for correction.
  3. Alterations from the first surgery: Previous rhinoplasty surgery changes, including shifts in cartilage and soft tissue, must be carefully considered during revision.
  4. Advanced surgical techniques: Revision rhinoplasty surgery often requires the use of cartilage grafts or implants to restore the nose's proper function and appearance.
Work with an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon for your revision rhinoplasty
As many factors make revision rhinoplasty a delicate procedure, it is essential for patients to work with an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon possessing an expertise in secondary procedures and nasal surgeries.

What is the cost of a nose job revision in Winnipeg?

The cost of a nose job revision in Winnipeg can vary depending on the complexity of the revision procedure and the specific goals of the patient. As revision rhinoplasty surgery is more complex than primary rhinoplasty, the costs tend to be higher. During your initial consultation, Dr. Esmail will discuss the details of the surgical plan, including any necessary cartilage grafts or other reconstructive surgery techniques, to provide an accurate cost estimate. Financing options may be available for this facial plastic surgery.

Are there risks associated with a revision nose job surgery?

As with all cosmetic surgeries and reconstructive procedures, revision rhinoplasties come with certain risks. These can include infection, excessive scarring, prolonged swelling, or dissatisfaction with the final outcome. Additional complications may arise due to the presence of scar tissue or changes from the initial surgery, which is why revision rhinoplasties require the expertise of an experienced revision rhinoplasty surgeon.

Dr. Esmail takes every precaution to minimize these risks, using advanced surgical techniques to achieve realistic expectations for each patient. Injectable fillers may sometimes be used to complement the surgery, but the delicate procedure requires precise care to ensure the best recovery and long-term results.
