Dr. Ali Esmail is Winnipeg’s first and only fellowship-trained Facial Plastic Surgeon. Unlike a ‘general plastic surgeon,’ Dr. Esmail has six years of specialized training that focuses solely on the neck up. Facial plastic surgery requires extreme attention to detail, an eye for symmetry and a drive for perfection. When it comes to someone’s face, there is no room for error. You want an expert whose sole focus is achieving quality results. It is those attributes that originally attracted Dr. Esmail to the field of facial plastic surgery. His obsessive acute attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetic symmetry is what makes him one of the most exciting and top young surgeons in the field.
Education
Dr. Ali Esmail is one of the top cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgeons in the country. A University of Manitoba alumni, Dr. Esmail studied medicine where he was introduced to the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. In his final year, he was elected as the chief resident for the department. Dr. Esmail spent one year away from his residency to complete a technology-based MBA at the world renowned University of Waterloo in the dept. Department of Engineering. Since then, he has been featured in many national magazines, television shows and even the Dragons’ Den for his successes in the field.
Following residency training, Dr. Esmail was accepted to a highly competitive and coveted facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the Glasgold Group of Princeton, NJ, through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. During his fellowship, Dr. Esmail functioned as a staff surgeon for the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery program at Robert-Wood Johnson University Hospital. Under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Glasgold, one of the top facelift surgeons in the world, Dr. Esmail learned to master the art of ageing face surgery, including the deep plane facelift, blepharoplasty and lipotransfer. Under Dr. Robert Glasgold, Dr. Esmail trained in the art of cosmetic rhinoplasty, approximately 30% percent of the cases performed were revision cases fixing rhinoplasties gone wrong. During his fellowship, Dr. Esmail was involved in more than 350 cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Esmail saw over 1500 patients for injectable fillers and botox treatments while in his fellowship. Unlike many current practices, 100% percent of these treatments were physician administered.
During his fellowship, Dr. Esmail spent part of his time completing hair restoration surgery training in Miami with the world’s leading hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Jeff Epstien. With Dr. Epstein, Dr. Esmail learned the art of designing a natural hairline as well as techniques in both FUT (Strip) and FUE hair transplant surgery.
Currently
Dr. Esmail is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is a member of the American and Canadian Academies of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a Clinical Lecturer for the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Esmail maintains operating privileges at the Health Sciences Centre HSC, St. Boniface, Victoria and the Childrens’ Hospitals in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
